>Anyone know how to prevent a footer from appearing on page 1 in Word 2007?

If you give the command to insert a page number, you get the option of including the page number on the first page. Make sure that is unchecked.

This will automatically create two headers/footers - one for the first page, one for other pages. You may then delete the page number, if you don't want it - or simply add other stuff.

There should be a more direct method (without inserting the perhaps un-needed page number), but I am not sure how to do this.

Another option is to create a separate section after the first page. Basically, each section has its own header/footer, but it is possible to link one header to the header of the previous section, so that changes in section 2, for example, get reflected in sections 3 and 4.
