Thanks but I don't think any of those utilities have the facility to shutdown the server, thet just monitor the temperature.

That is ideal, at least it would be if I could get it to work. Never seen an option to enable MSACPI on any motherboards so don't know if that is enabled or not, however the temperature reading must be available from somewhere because the Asus monitoring software can see it.
Your example code errors at line 'For Each objItem IN colItems' with the following:
OLE error code: 0x80041003: Unknown COM status code.
