The chance of a problem is slim as the intruder was in the Airman's home and the Airman did not know if the burglar(s) were armed or not. I recall an incident here where two jerks were breaking down a pensioner's back door to gain entry. The pensioner fired his double barrelled shot gun through the door killing one of the jerks. No charges were laid.
