You might be more successful if you were to point out the differences in Obama's policies, views, and ideas from marxism, socialism, and communism. There is some evidence that Obama does hold similar views:

As radical as I think people try to characterize the Warren Court, it wasn’t that radical. It didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the founding fathers in the Constitution, at least as its been interpreted and Warren Court interpreted in the same way, that generally the Constitution is a charter of negative liberties. Says what the states can’t do to you. Says what the Federal government can’t do to you, but doesn’t say what the Federal government or State government must do on your behalf, and that hasn’t shifted and one of the, I think, tragedies of the civil rights movement was, um, because the civil rights movement became so court focused I think there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalition of powers through which you bring about redistributive change. In some ways we still suffer from that.

You should be familar with the paragraph above. It is from a Chicago Public Radio interview with Obama in 2001. Now, the entire interview leaves Obama leaning in and out of that (you have to listen for yourself and not to the blurbs on the web) but it is clear that he supports a type of redistribution and has for years. As we all know, there has always been wealth redistribution in this country - the question is, how far should it go and is it the responsibility of the government?

In essence, he will reinterpret the Constitution to allow the government to take wealth from each according to his ability, and then he will form a legislative means to redistribute that wealth according to need.

Now as to his differences with marxism, socialism, and communism (not mentioning that the three are different as most intelligent people know that), I will leave that up to you since you are so committed to your support of him here. There is plenty of evidence in his policies and speeches to support his separatism from those views :o)

It is possible that John was simply quoting Tom Delay who called Obama a Marxist without providing any evidence to support his claim.

Overall, I think Obama is not a Marxist, Communist, or Socialist. He may believe in some policies which fall into those categories, but his entire platform does not. Some of his policies are decidedly anti all three. The same cannot be said of Hillary who did a much better job of stating and promoting her views and policies without fear of being labeled. Obama is far more centrist than Hillary.

>Marxist -- excellent. You have already called him communist and socialist, so you just hit the trifecta.
>
>>I am more concerned than Joe Biden, about Obama's ability to deal with a cataclysm. But, even without one, I'm extremely concerned about his Marxist views. He will not be a good president, and the Ds are going to tax us into oblivion. The future looks bright though, but that future is 2 years down the road....

>>>Any American President will respond if we are attacked. What we can do without is Presidents who attack other countries without provocation.
>>>
>>>Given that he is about to be elected, I think it's time you looked at Obama with an open mind. I did the same with W until he proved me wrong. I seriously, nonpartisanly think Obama is well suited to be President. He's smart, he listens, and he is going to go over very well with our allies. When I first predicted he would win, a year and a half ago, it was not with much thought that he might actually win. He has lived up to my hopes and exceeded them. Keep an open mind!
>>>
>>>Will he make mistakes? Of course. They all do. And there are problems now that are beyond a single person's powers to correct, at least right away. But I could not be happier with the choice we are about to make. That it is historic in terms of the color of his skin is almost the least of the reasons.
