>24x7 apps that are visible and updated by multiple users simultaneously often require validation in each control. In that case, it must be done in the valid or the lostfocus. When that is not a requirement, I prefer checking just prior to a global form save and then setting focus to the control with the problem.
I think the point is though, that there really isn't anything you can do in the valid that you can't do in the lostfocus. It just may require a line or two more code.
