I'm sorry I have troubles explaining what I mean. I want you to try to use some fixed alias for your grid. Get your XML cursor into the temp cursor and put it in the cursor you used for the grid (set in the property sheet). It may not necessary be the cause of your problem, but at least we would have a simple case without grid restoration possible problems.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
