Can Curdir() or AT() slow down the application?

Actually this customer where I am having the slow access to data problem has the application on drive mapped to T:. But I am not sure if he does or does not have CD or thumbdrive. Last night I commented the code using CURDIR() and posted update. I will find out today if it made a difference or not.
