There are privated hospitals or specialists that you can go to for better care, when I say "better" I'm mostly talking about much shorter waiting time. And for the most part people are descent and proud and want to pay for the services they receive.

I been to an emergency room at a county hospital. Once you're under their care, the urgency and attention you receive is the same. It's just that the waiting time may be longer.

I'm sure it happens but I don't know how common "losing one's home" over medical expense is.

When my mother needed hip replacement her insurance and medicare took care of 80-90 percent of the cost. For the balance of the bill they gave us an option to pay for it on installment plan.
