I figured it out.

First the sheet name was not "sheet1". I had to open it and look at the tab to know that since I am not using an object to open the file that attribute is not available in this simple import process.

Second ,stupid Vista stored the file as "Excel2007Export". I have my explorer set to see extensions and did not see one so I renamed it and added a ".xlsx" in an attempt to make things work. The only way I caught this was when I made a change and saved the file it asked me to save "Excel2007export.xlsx.xlsx". Retarded. I cut the second ".xlsx" off and used the right sheet name and it worked.

Yikes.
