>>>Is anyone else being inundated with emails trying to sell knockoffs of high end watches (Rolex et al)? I have been receiving several of them a day for the past several weeks. The emails include no Unsubscribe option, just a teaser line and a link. Apparently they are pretty resistant to spam blocking, too. Usually after I mark something as junk once or twice with Thunderbird that takes care of it. Not in this case. The "senders" keep changing but the subject lines and content don't vary much.

>>>Not important, obviously, just wondered if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. And wondering a little about why some spam is more impervious than others.

>>I get them too. I also see them in various unmonitored newsgroups. It once again brings up the question: Who are the idiots that respond to spam? They should all be rounded up and shot so that the spam cost/benefit ratio would drop below the point where it's worthwhile and we could all get a breather.

>It seems like a case of the spammers always managing to stay a step ahead of the spam blockers. The blockers respond to the latest angle, then the spammers find a new one. Very resilient. In fact an analogy to cockroaches is probably apt. The cockroaches of cyberspace....

The only difference is that when we are all gone, so will the spammers be. But as Tom Robbins said (in, I think, 'Another Roadside Attraction'), when we are all gone, there will still be cockroaches and gonorrhea.
