The only caught up because we gave away the technology we developed and it is now used against us. Like it or not, if not for all the foreign exchange students and H1B visas that got to come over and work and then take that technology back home we would still be ahead. We shot ourselves in the foot all in the name of competition and low prices. Nobody in power has the gumption that say it or make a stand to change it less they are branded a xenophobe, racist, or some other nonsense.
