He may have enjoyed it at the time but if you look at the things it has led to in his life, it hardly seems like a positive experience. I think he is still paying for his excesses now. I'm sure he is a proud man, like about any other great athlete (well, except the ones who are women ;-) ), and it has to sting to have become an object of derision. Yes, I think he's paid. And is still paying.
