There was one in a world cup game few years ago where a player wanted the ball because it was a throw in or corner. An opposition player kicked the ball at him and he threw his hands up to his face and went down like he'd been hit by a truck. The other player was sent off but the slow motion replay showed the ball bounced off the mans knee.

That's one of the things that turns a lot of U.S. sports fans off soccer.

There are sanctions in the laws of the game for faking an injury. Unfortunately, they are seldom if ever enforced. I have heard speculation that FIFA will more strongly encourage enforcement when it releases its annual law changes next spring. No way to know yet if it's more than talk.
