That's one of the things that turns a lot of U.S. sports fans off soccer.

There are sanctions in the laws of the game for faking an injury. Unfortunately, they are seldom if ever enforced. I have heard speculation that FIFA will more strongly encourage enforcement when it releases its annual law changes next spring. No way to know yet if it's more than talk.
