Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It's old, it's positive, and it's all-inclusive. We get together with our families. We gorge. Some of us, those of us without dependencies, overdrink and become extravagant. We say no, no, I couldn't possibly eat that. And then we eat it Everyone is happy.
I have an ex-family. Meaning Tricia and her family. From the first year we were married -- actually I think from the year before, when we were just engaged and living together -- everyone convened at our house every year. The crowd varied between 18 and 25, give or take. All the others had alternate in-laws in the area. We pushed every last table and chair into our long living room, which was the one indisputable charm of our house. Poppa, Tricia's dad, sat at the head of the table and said grace.
