I've been through this as both the victim and the mom. If your 11-year-old can handle it, the best choice is to totally ignore the teasing and walk away. Most kids who tease will stop if it doesn't get a rise out of the victim.

Unfortunately, most of us can't manage that. Assuming it's verbal, not physical, second-best choice is to give as good as you get. Humor will go a long way, though a "screw you" response can be pretty effective, too.

If it doesn't stop or gets worse, you must get the school involved. these days, most schools understand that teasing and bullying are not oday.
