You can design the container class with the contained objects already placed in at design time. If the objects are stuffed in at runtime they can use this.parent to access the container properties. Realizing that if you are using custom properties of the container that you are restricting the subclass of items used in the container and where the subclass can be used.
Maybe if you give a little more detail of your end goal we can suggest better solutions.
