If you go to the various WHOIS lookup services, you will find some with API's. However, the number of queries daily is limited. Why? Because those doing it are usually looking for domains to poach. They are typically easy API's to use in a Web Service. And VFP makes it very easy to build a SOAP object (it's all in the helpfile). Here's a paid service I found in a Google search:
http://xml-api.domaintools.com/. This uses XML directly, not SOAP, but it looks easy to use. You can find examples of how to send XML queries here and on the web.
