A s a martial art I've never rated Judo. It relies on the opponent's wearing a Gi, with thick non-rip lapels for you to grab on. If you tried a judo throw on someone wearing just a cotton shirt you'd end up with just a handful of shirt-front and the opponent standing.

Hence verbal judo requires thick auditory lapels.
