>>>>>I am curious about something. I got an email (kind of spam) from CompUSA with an ad for Acer notebook that comes with a BlueRay DVD Player. Aren't Blue Ray DVD supposed to show movies on 1080p type TVs? And I thought that notebook screens (even the best) don't come even close the resolution of 1080p TVs. And if it's true, doesn't it make the BlueRay DVD on a notebook useless? Please correct me if I am wrong.

>>>>No, it doesn't make it useless. Usually the video out supports the 1080 p/i standard (1920 x 1080). Most notebook screens can support the 720 p/i standard (1280 x 720), which is still better than normal DVD resolution.
>>>
>>>Actually you know, I just remembered, there is one model of Dell notebook that supports 1920 x 1080 resolution. So I guess, if they put BlueRay DVD player on that model, you can view DVD in full 1080p quality. Having said this, I bought my current notebook 2.5 years ago and thought that I would watch movies/DVD on my notebook but have not done it even once.

>>You can hook an external monitor up to your laptop. I do unless I'm on the road or not in my office or home :o)

>I realize that. The reason I never watched a DVD on my notebook is because I never have time. So connecting my notebook to an external monitor will not solve this problem {g}.

Same here. I have an external monitor hooked up for work, not for play. I like having dual monitors for display. I've never watched a movie or played games on a pc. Just not something I enjoy. I've never been a 'gamer.' When I travel, my daughter has a portable dvd player I use to watch movies on the plane. At home, I watch movies on my HDtv :o)
