In scool and university the notation was
-24
---*(-2)=(-24/4)*(-2)
 4
*or the other way
-24
---- = -24/(4*(-2))
4*-2
If I calculate with the paper computer I would do
(-24/4)*(-2) = 12
because the use of
-24/4/(-2) = 3
is
-24
---   -24   1     -24
 4  = ----*--- = ----- = 3
---    4    -2   4*(-2)
-2
If you use a programming language the result depends on the definitions.
