>>>>Well, OF COURSE he's lying by assumption of the logic I already posted. I just don't understand why. He had nothing to lose by admitting that he and/or his staff was working with Blag on the transition of the Senate seat if they weren't complicit in the scandal. I truly believe that Obama would not have played along in this scandal and Blag's cursing him out in the tapes seems to back that up.
>>>>
>>>>The thing that bothers me is that assuming I'm right about Obama not playing games with Blag (good for him), why the knee-jerk reaction of a bald-face lie? Is this how he's going to react to any controversy going forward - lie to us and hope it sticks? If I were an Obama supporter listening to months of how open and honest he was going to be I'd be seriously perturbed.
>>>
>>>
>>>Here's what Obama said: ""I have never spoken to the governor on this subject. I am confident that no representatives of mine would have any part of any deals related to this seat."
>>>
>>>Where's the lie? He didn't say that no one on his staff had talked to the governor. He said he hadn't and that he was sure his staff wouldn't have been part of a deal.

>>How about this one:
>>“I had no contact with the governor or his office and so we were not, I was not aware of what was happening.”
>>
>>There are others as well. I'm not going to post them all. I posted that one because it is only one of the comments I heard Obama say myself.

>He probably was aware of what was happening but I believe him when he says he has had no direct involvement. It would have been done through his staff and none of them would have gotten any more involved than passing along some recommendations. Obama is working full time on the transition. Why would he want to keep a hand in the cesspool that is Illinois politics?

>Speaking of the transition, interesting small story in the paper yesterday. The Obamas had asked if they could move into Blair House by January 5 instead of the traditional January 15 so their daughters could start school on time instead of a week and a half late. The Bush people said no. They said Blair House is booked for a number of events and it is impossible to move the date up. The Obamas took pains to say they accept the answer -- the transition seems to have been cordial between the Obamas and the Bushes -- but you can't help wondering what scheduled events outrank the incoming President.

Impossible to say since the Blair House guests are typically heads of state (and arranged months in advance) and the schedule is kept confidential for security reasons.
