The Obamas had asked if they could move into Blair House by January 5 instead of the traditional January 15 so their daughters could start school on time instead of a week and a half late. The Bush people said no. They said Blair House is booked for a number of events and it is impossible to move the date up. The Obamas took pains to say they accept the answer -- the transition seems to have been cordial between the Obamas and the Bushes -- but you can't help wondering what scheduled events outrank the incoming President.

Impossible to say since the Blair House guests are typically heads of state (and arranged months in advance) and the schedule is kept confidential for security reasons.
