>This is not really a VFP question, however I know I can usually count on good answers here (and I'm not sure where else to post this at the moment - suggestions on that are welcome, too). I attach to a computer at a client's site using RAdmin. It's been working great for quite awhile (for this client and another). Recently, I've been having some issues of it not connecting to one client (I may have problems with the other client, too, but I have not connected to them much recently, so I'm not sure). Everything seems fine on the client's end. Same on mine, but I noticed that somehow, Windows Firewall changed to saying it was using my domain settings and I couldn't modify its status (it indicated it was off). I haven't changed any domain settings and it hadn't been using the domain settings before. However, I wanted to switch from Norton to AVG, so since AVG has a firewall, I uninstalled Windows Firewall. After installing AVG, I was able to log into the client's computer and work for 2.5 hours with no problem. I thought the problem might be fixed, but then, as I was testing an FTP upload from my computer to my FTP site, my program (which uses WWIPSTUFF) started failing (only minutes earlier it had worked fine and I changed nothing in the program that should affect this). I was able to connect with WS_FTP Pro. So one program would connect to my FTP site and another wouldn't. Then I needed to upload something to my client's computer, so I attempted to start the file transfer in RAdmin. It would not connect to the computer, whereas it had within the last hour or less. The desktop RAdmin session was still open and working fine. So here was another situation of one program connecting to another computer and another program (the file transfer program in RAdmin) not connecting to the same computer. Kind of similar to how my program would not connect to my FTP site, but WS_FPT Pro would. I think I have some strange connectivity issues (I tested with the AVG firewall off, of course), but I'm not sure what could be causing it. Can anyone suggest some troubleshooting steps for this situation and/or a diagnostic program?

Disabling Windows Firewall and then making it impossible to re-enable through the user interface is *classic* malware behaviour. Malware does this via settings in Group Policy. If you have XP Pro, you have gpedit.msc which can configure Group Policy, but it's completely missing from XP Home.

Once installed on your machine, malware can do all sorts of things like selectively blocking network ports, redirecting DNS requests etc. which manifest as strange connectivity problems. I'd *highly* recommend you get your machine thoroughly scanned for malware, or restore from your last known good image backup.

As for AVG firewall, IIRC it has "profiles" for home, office, WiFi hotspot etc. I've seen the AVG firewall change its default profile from your normal one to a more restrictive one that won't let you do what you want. Check that the profile you think you have selected is actually in use.
