>Hello All,
> I've got 6000 records in our order database. We have 8 users on our windows 2000 server network. It can take as much as 20 seconds to do a search for last name in this data. Why so slow? I have an index on last name but am searching on Upper(lastname). Should I make the index upper(lastname) would this help?

Changing the index would help - but that is waaay long time for only 6,000 records.

What anti-virus software are you using? I've had a similar situation before when users had norton anti-virus installed. The solution was to change the settings so norton did not scan network drives.
