Wether to take the MM.Net Class or advanced class is based on your level of expreince with dot net and frameworks in general. If you want a good place to start, it really is with the Developers Guide and in paticular with the jump start series in that guide. It is very basic and will get you started quickly.

With regard to building your own framework; it is very intense work and not for the beginner. That said you don't need a framework to build an application. There are some good books on building frameworks and I am sure some could be recommended if you decide to go that route. Are you new to Dot Net also?
