Do the original documents need to be on the disk at all? The originals are never modified or saved but Word does need to open them, select all, and then copy the contents before closing Could Word access the document within the EXE?

Umm. I think I answered that question: No. Word needs to find them on the disk. Too bad. One of the problems has been that the documents get altered occasionally and that throws the formatting off.
