I'll go back to the analogy that we are all talking in a room (like a party). I find someone irritating so I choose not to talk to them (there's plenty of other people to talk to for them and for me) but they keep coming after me. Then it becomes a problem and I have to be explicit but we can still choose to both stay in the room.
