Fair enough, but from the way folks tend to react don't you think that there may be a wiser approach, perhaps just thinking through the wording a little more carefully for example?

I have found that effective communications is very hard, even face to face, given the 'filters' most folks bring to the conversation.

For example, here's one suggestion; take a few minutes and think about the real subject of most messages, particularly on a technically-oriented forum like the UT. Either the subject is the [fill in the technical issue subject matter here] or some shared subject, like sports, politices, etc where the debates can be quite lively at times -or- it is ALL ABOUT ME!!!!! or that's how it comes across to most folks. Discuss the real issue or help the other party to get back on track if they have wandered into 'me-ville'.

I suspect that most of the souls who attend here are more than willing to let another discuss themselves as long as that other individual is willing to reciprocate. I have found that -generally speaking- if someone only talks about themselves others will begin to respond in a manner that is a written version of the visual 'clues' we can all get when we start to do this. Turning one's shoulder away and so forth. Just as in face to face communications some folks are more alert and 'tuned in' to these clues and presuming they are semi-socially adept will respond in more or less a positive fashion.

So, if someone consistently receives a message version of the turned shoulder it doesn't take a rocket scientist to conclude that one's message skill set isn't where it ought to be - REGARDLESS OF THE INTENT - as intent is unknown to anyone other than the individual communicating.

In other words, perhaps there are some mechanical skills needed that will more accurately expose the real intent - unless it really is only about the communicator.
