>>>>>>>At the risk of starting a twit-filtered whiney flame war with Roger Waters fans, I just picked up a copy of David Gilmour's Remember That Night at Royal Albert Hall DVD and it is fantastic. The best concert DVD i have seen. Recorded in HD, with 5.1 surround sound, documentaries. He draws from his new album and some Pink Floyd classics. That chap can play. Highly recommended.
>>>>>>
>>>>>>Well I don't know why you addressed this to me, Chris, cos I ain't gonna flame you over this, and I'm not particularly a Floyd fan, well not since Dark Side.
>>>>>
>>>>>Was joking about flame wars. Just continuing the music / thievery theme. I cant say i was a big floyd fan myself, but this dvd is quite good.
>>>>
>>>>I turned my back on Floyd after Brick. They used a kids' school to record the kids' voices and, despite being millionaires, and that song's huge sales around the world, the kids didn't even get a copy, or a lolipop for their troubles. And I reckon they went crap at that time anyway.
>>>>
>>>>Mind you, I don't know if you've heard of the folk/rock group "the Oyster Band", but I, with several members of our choir, did backing singing on that, and I got diddly-squat for it :-(
>>>>
>>>>But then again, they're not 1/10 as big as Floyd.
>>>>
>>>>BTW my fave tracks of Floyd are Dragonfly (drop-dead gorgeous, esp. the guitar playing), from back in days of yore, and Albatross.
>>>
>>>I had the complete opposite experience. It was The Wall ("Brick" as you put it) that got me hooked on the Floyd. I must agree with you if what you say is true regarding the school kids. Not very sporting of them.
>>>
>>>By "Albatross", are you referring to the song from Echoes? IMO it's got brilliant vocals and music; classic Floyd.
>>
>>Albatross was one of their very first singles (if not THE first) - purely instrumental and very descriptive. You can practically feel the bird soaring over the ocean.
>>I think you refer to the lyrics "Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air. And deep beneath the rolling waves .." on Echoes.
>>
>>Echoes I love, as well as Ummagumma, their earlier album, but I don't think either of these tracks is on either.
>>
>>If you haven't heard these, and your "Wall" start might suggest this, you really should check these out
>>
>>BTW, I knew the album was called "the Wall" but I always thought the single/track was "Brick in the Wall". As I said, i lost interest in them back then, and remember that taht bloody song was no 1 for, like, ever, and got sick of seeing/hearing it on Top of the Pops every week.
>
>Yeah, "Brick in the Wall" was overplayed. To make matters worse, there were at least 2 parts possibly 3 for that song! It was probably my least favorite on that album.
>
>I do know about Ummagumma and Echoes. Every fan does, no? You mentioning Ummagumma reminds me of the song with one of the longest titles that I can remember - "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Groovin' With a Pict". Whew.

I was tempted to mention it but couldn't be bothered writing it all.

Not" Whew" but "Hum-bum WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE a ke-ke-ke hum-bum WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! "

BTW, I thought I posted yesterday that I was mixing up Albatross and Dragonfly with the old Fleetwood Mac. They did them. DO'OH what was I thinking?
