My mother died an alcoholic, of liver failure and jaundice. 2 of my 3 sisters are alkies and my brother is.

I've watched the destruction done to my immediate family from the power of alcohol and I KNOW that there is no way you can quit if you keep justifying it and making excuses that its not that simple, that I have to have it in the house, etc. You start by NOT BUYING IT.

What bothers me most in this situation, knowing the damage that my mother did to us through her drinking, is that you are passing the same mantra to your daughters, and they will grow up with many of the same problems I did. I didn't understand then, and I'm sure your daughters don't either, but you do. You have talked about the damage you are doing to them. If you can't walk straight and narrow until they are on their own (for them), then shame on you for afffecting them like this when you can stop.

My mother lasted 3 years before she died, leaving 5 young children (my dad was killed in an accident years earlier) basically destitute. Don't lecture us on the reasons why you can't, don't make excuses for your behavior. Just acknowledge the problem, get rid of the alchol in your house, and talk to your sponsor (or your daughters) when you get the urges and be a man and quit....

Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I ever did. I tried everything to quit, but in the end, the only way to quit was to not smoke and in the end your ownly solution is to not drink.
