It is not a workaround. The filtering options should have been general all over the application since the debut and it was not. For that one, it would probably be called something like "Bypass category filter at the calendar level" or something like that. The filtering includes three levels. The first one is the category filter. The second one is the twit filter and the third one is the thread filtering.
