The key combination ALT+ is to alternatively compose various
characters (I don't remember whether it's ANSI or scan-code :), so the OS
interprets ALT+1 as an attempt to print on the screen Ctrl+A, for example, which is
Select All from Edit window.

Some things are better be left unknown...NOT!!!
