You do make good points, John. There are times when the people we elect should be leaders, rather than followers.

But in fact, we are. Even if we don't agree with those leaders (about civil rights, e.g.), we still have to elect them before they can lead us.

I vehemently disagree with this, though. If it were true, then democracy would be a _terrible_ form of government, and America, the greatest democracy in the world, would be a terrible place to live.
