I think there is a misconception that those who don't want the government taking their wages and determining how best they could be used are clinging to them with all their might. Typically, the wealthy are generous in charities and good acts but prefer to have the power to make the decision which charities their wages go to. The most recent time I donated time and $ to a local charity (just before christmas, I admit I am lax due to time constraints right now), the other donors came from a wide-range of backgrounds and income levels but definitely included some very wealthy families.
