Great job, both of you. Especially her! ;-) Seriously, I always like hearing about a lasting relationship.

>Our "secret" is committment, or just plain ol meanness.... We have decided that we are going to stay together, and apparently neither of us has done any deal breaking things. Forgiveness is also a big part of it, as is the notion to not sweat the small stuff, and that everything (in the final analysis) is small stuff. After all this time, we are best friends, so it's not a hard thing to do. I think God just decided He needed to help me, so I've been blessed - heaped up, packed down and shaken - as the Bible says.

>>Congrats on the 30 years. Most of us intend to do so but few of us succeed.

>>What's your secret? Unlimited patience on her part? ;-) Forbearance? Knowing which things to discuss and which things not to? A feeling of still being simpatico after all these years?

>>I thought I had all those things going and still only made it to 14 years. 16 years together, 18 from wedding to divorce. It's odd that we get along together now than we did in our last couple of years together. Well, other than some ways, of course. (I shouldn't say "of course" -- I know some exes who still do).

>>You're probably wondering what I'm doing online in the middle of the night. My sleep patterns are all messed up. The doc adjusted my antidepressant medication -- down, which is great -- and I guess my system is still adjusting to the new dosage. Some days I am sleepy at 8 p.m. and wide awake at 3 in the morning. As long as my head seems pointed in the right direction I don't mind.
