The Harrisburg region lost >7000 jobs in December alone, fwiw. Assuming that some of these hardworking people whose lives have been overturned also have families, how long do you suppose they can go without organized assistance before they start playing Robin Hood? Apparently not very long, if you keep hurling these silly cliches around.
I am not completely against a welfare state - I have no issue with paying SOME taxes, recognizing the interest in a government to protect us and recognizing the value in certain public works.
