In VFP 3.0, if I create an updateable view and add a record containing a character field, and the character data for that field is less than the maximum field width, the value added is padded right with spaces so it fills up the column. Why?

If I use SQLPassthough, this doesn't happen.

For Example: If I add "WO" to a batch_type field defined as varchar2(8), what gets added to the table is
WO ", NOT "WO".
