But the compiler didn't complain...

ooops, this is message window, not VFP. Though, I think it may be omitted in ActiveX method calls, or some other cases. GetObject(, "classname") was one of them, AFAIK. But native VFP doesn't support it, or is there some novelty I'm not informed of?
