Interesting article but I have to wonder anytime I see an article by

Fair enough! It was high on the list when I googled "consequences AIG collapse." There are plenty of other articles including more than a few showing that AIG tried desperately to find money from banking/business/private industry (the very people who could expect to lose everythig if AIG went under) but failed. Government had little choice but to step in and clean up the mess. The clear message is that capitalist business will make like bandits when the going is good but when it comes to the crunch, they will run for cover even if that will cause their own business or the whole system to collapse. they are also more than happy to feed from the public purse to an extent that dwarfs welfare. IMHO that sort of thinking and those sorts of people can't be left in charge. Government is going to have to oversee banking for at least a generation IMHO.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
