>>>How about the all-female band The Runaways? Back in the late 70's they were probably the first successful all-girl rock bands. Obviously Joan Jett and Lita Ford had decent solo carrers after the band broke up - which I believe was a direct result of the drummer dying.

>Actually no. I did some checking last night and I was incorrect. Sandy West (the drummer) did indeed die, but not until Oct 2006 from cancer. Sandy West, Joan Jett, and Lita Ford were in the band from beginning to end, Cherie Currie did some keyboard and vocals work in the middle of the band's existance. They went though 5 different bass players - Micky Steele, Peggy Foster, Jackie Fox, Vicki Blue, and Laurie McAllister. Interestingly they all have become somewhat sucessfull....even Jackie Fox went to Harvard and became a lawyer..haha. Micki Steele of course become one of the Bangles. Apparenlty thereis a documentary film about the band on showtime too...

I always liked Joan Jett. And I have a real soft spot for The Bangles. There is an extended cut of Walk like an Egyptian bouncing around the web that is really pretty compelling.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
