UNITED NATIONS: The new U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice said on Monday that the new U.S. administration would make Iran's nuclear program a top diplomatic priority and would pursue direct talks with Tehran.
"We look forward to engaging in vigorous diplomacy that includes direct diplomacy with Iran," Rice told reporters after 45 minutes of closed-door discussions with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

BERLIN (IRNA) - Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg whose country holds the present rotating European Union presidency, pressed for initiating a swift dialogue between Iran and the U.S. aimed at engaging in a rapprochement process between the two countries.
Speaking to the website of the German Handelsblatt business newspaper, the Czech foreign minister said,""I hope very much there will be soon direct and intensive talks between Washington and Tehran.""
""I always believed it was senseless to ignore your opponent,"" Schwarzenberg added.
The Czech diplomat stressed dealing with the issue of Iran should be an ""important task"" for new American President Barack Obama who has repeatedly said he would be willing to hold unconditional negotiations with Tehran.
Meanwhile, Iran has also stated it was ready for launching a political dialogue with the U.S., provided Washington abandons finally its 30-year hostile stance towards the Islamic Republic.
