OK, let's go with yours, then. There were 465,000 unemployed Ohioans in December. (http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2009/01/23/ap5958251.html). So if every one of those people applied for the jobs, slightly more than 1 in 100 of them would be hired.

I don't have any more admiration for lazy layabouts than you do. But you may be underestimating the severity of the current job market.
