It does, because any window that has anything with a message property on it will basically "set message to < that thing's message >" as soon as it becomes active, and that will hide your line position again. I think the notorious example is your document view, and also the browser object in environment manager. Just pull up any of those while you're editing and seeing column/line position, give it focus, then go back to your editing and see whether your line position shows. Probably doesn't - I haven't checked for a while. If I really want to know how many lines there are, then I set it on (and Set Message To to clear other windows' droppings), but I know it won't hold for long.
