Have you tried to post your problem on the HP website?
http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html -just follow the pages and eventually you will see the forum link on the left side. You may see some other drivers for 2420's that you might want to try.
Also, I don't know if they exist or not for the 2420 but we had to load(client side) the DOS driver for some HP LJ 1000's to get them to work.
