Tamar -- this is a good example of how we can keep going with VFP even when the world changes around us. SInce VFP can't import Excel 2007 (and probably beyond) files, we can lean back on Excel's backward compatibility features and do a kludgey but totally workable endrun around it. One day Excel automation will probably break with VFP, and that's when someone will probably come up with another workaround using some other kludge.
I've used the save-first-to-previous-version-then-import-to-VFP -approach for quite a while -- actually ever since Office 2007 came out -- and it really does work quite well.
Lesson learned: It takes a LOT to beat a maverick group like VFP developers into (.NET) submission, and at some point MS might as well stop trying :-)
