http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7859155.stmBoeing's troubles have been big news here this week, since they are Chicago-based (although most of the employees are in Seattle). They announced a layoff of 6% of the work force due to soft sales projections in the global downturn. They are also having trouble with a new aircraft, a longer version of the 747 that is supposed to compete with the Airbus. It's taking a lot longer to develop than they expected and they just wrote off something like $50 million in cost overruns.
There isn't much good economic news to be found these days.
