I guess it depends.
There are many adoption agencies. Public private, domestic and foreign. You can probably guess which ones will be cheaper.
It can cost any where from a few hundreds of dollars to ten of thousands. We adopted domestic kids, kids who are already in the states so it cuts down on traveling, lawyer fees and paper work.
After your application is approved, you must have to go through background check, which can take up to two three months. My wife and I waited about six weeks. They check everything, criminal, finances, legal status, medical etc....
Most, if not all adoption agency require you to attend adoption counciling group after the process is completed, especially if it's your first adopted child. And number of session varies too.
