It depends on how, as you said, a client is "scanning into Excel a date contained in a barcode", and how "result is the formula" appears. If he creates a new workbook, then probably he needs to send values, not formulas, to Excel. If he pupulates the existing sheet already containing now() as formula, then this cell should be fixed: it shoukld not contain the formula, etc.
