That would require to hit Enter after you enter the ID. As I mentioned in another thread, this is the only way I can validate. So, once you press Enter after having entered the ID, this sends a message to the server which will indicate the name it finds in the textbox. Otherwise, it will be blank. As usual, the pick list is more intuitive as far as locating a member visually.
