If you type directly in the textbox, that should be the ID. Then, when you press Enter, the server will validate it and will show the name, if found. Otherwise, it will blank it. If you use the pick list, you can use the existing columns as search and in there you have the ability to decide on which field you would like to search.

If you typed the proper ID, it should have been validated. If the round trip was done to the server, the result can only be the name found or empty if the ID was not found.
