Don't do it if you have Visual C++ projects in previous versions.
One big problem I had was that VS6 changed all MFC*.* files (same file names, new versions) and my VC++ projects simply don't work with these new files. There's a screen at the beggining of the installation saying that you can install VS6 in a different directory and everything will be fine, but this is not true (some other people told me that they had the same problems I had).
Besides that, VC6 installs some very neat new tools (although I had problems with Visual Analyser which slowed down seriously my computer). One of them (sorry I forgot its name) allows you to see all dlls/components used by an exe, all the functions in any dll, etc. Really neat and with a very prcatical UI.
Finally, I had to reinstall VS97 because not all members of the team can change it now.
